Flashmob: Pennyferry was commissioned for the Lumiere Durham festival of light by Artichoke London [The Sultan's Elephant, One & Other], in partnership with skyARTS.  It was created to actively engage with the population of Durham City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The work is one of a series of light installations that explores the reuse of reclaimed and recycled materials, and alternative forms of lighting.  Located on and around the new pedestrian and cycle route of the 2002 Pennyferry Bridge (itself on the site of an historic ferry crossing), the work celebrates the bridge and more sustainable modes of transport.
